ENDODONTICS
Endodontics or Root canal therapy may take from one to three appointments. At the first appointment an opening is made into the pulp chamber under local anaesthetic. The pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned, enlarged and shaped. This may be done either with small hand instruments or special attachments in the dental handpiece.
ORTHODONTICS
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of dental irregularities such as crowded, protruding, overlapping or widely spaced teeth. The object is to improve both appearance and oral health; irregular teeth are hard to clean effectively, so are more susceptible to caries (decay) and periodontal (gum) disease. Also, uneven biting forces may cause excessive tooth wear, gingival recession or even problems with your temporomandibular (jaw) joints.
PROSTHODONTICS
A prosthodontist is a dental specialist in the restoration and replacement of teeth. Extensive training and education provide prosthodontists with the skills for restoring optimum function and esthetics to your smile. These include: crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, complete and removable partial dentures, dental implants, TMD-jaw joint problems, traumatic injuries to the mouth’s structures and/or teeth, snoring and sleep disorders and oral cancer reconstruction and continuing care.
IMPLANTS
The most common type of dental implant is a small appliance, usually shaped approximately like a tooth root and made of titanium, which is embedded in your jawbone where a tooth has been lost. Over a period of time the implant becomes fused to the bone by a process known as osseointegration. Once this has occurred, one or more implants may be used to support restorations such as crowns, bridges and removable dentures. |
